A.    Example for Descriptive text about Place

   DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
1.      Definition
Descriptive text is a text that describes the characteristics of a particular person or thing. It can be its shape, its characteristics, and its number and so on. The goal of the descriptive text is to explain, to describe or to express a person, a place, an object or a thing.
                 


2.      The generic structure of Descriptive Text:
a.      Identification/ introduction
It contains the identification of matter or someone that will be described. It identifies the phenomenon to be described.


b.      Description/ details
It contains the explanation or description of the thing or person by mentioning its characteristic. It also describes features in order of importance such as (1) parts/things (physical appearance), (2) qualities (degree of beauty, excellence, or worth value), and (3) other characteristics (prominent aspects that are unique).

Identification/ introduction  
: General statement about the subject.
May include : Who, What, When, Where.

Description/ details            
: Statements describing characteristics.
May include:
·         For people = What they look like? What they do? How the act?
·         For things = How they look, sound, feel like? Where are they seen? What they do? How they are used?

Conclusion    
(Optional statement to sum up main idea)


3.      The generic features of Descriptive Text:
a.       Use of Simple Present Tense.
Simple Present Tense expresses daily habits or usual activities. It may also general statements of fact. In sum, this tense tell us about an action which is done at the present time. A simple formula for this tense can be devised as follows:

1.      How to write a descriptive text:
a.       Introduce your subject:Who or What/ When/ Where
b.      Describe important characteristics in detail:Look like, feel like, sound like
c.       Sum up main ideas
d.      New paragraph for each part
e.       Word focus: Adjective and verbs.
f.       Style: personal/ impersonal, third person.

2.      Simple Present with Preposition to Describe Places
a.       Borobudur Temple is located in Indonesia.
b.      My school is onJalanSamratulangi.
c.       The Bank is at Jalan AdiSucipto No.5.
d.      The bookstore is beside my school.
e.       There is a restaurant in front of the bookstore.
Explanation:
a.       In is used to refer to large and big place: city, country, or inside a building.
b.      On is used to refer to a name of a street.
c.       At is used to refer to a place that is located on a street with the number.

3.      Simple Present to Describe Persons
Present Tense with Verb

Present Tense with to be.

1.      She looks pretty in her brown gown.

2.      He is slim.
3.      He is about 17 years old.

Example for Descriptive text about Place

”City Park of Buntok”

Identification/ Introduction (general statements of  the subject)
City park of Buntok is famous place that you can find in Buntok. In my hometown there is a good place, and it is one of famous places for visiting especially the city park of Buntok. City park of Buntok is located in south Barito(name for a river) exactly at bank of beach and it is near from main anchorage of Buntok.
Description/ Details (statements describing characteristics)

Around of city park of Buntok there are several certain places such as plaza Beringin store, garden, and anchorege. In opposite of the city park of Buntok there is a plaza Beringin store that is used for shopping anything what you like and it also provides things what you want. In plaza Beringin store provides some stores such as clothes store, dress store, toys store, handphone counter and the important one is mini market. In this mini market people can be shopping the other foods. For example, foods and snack , ice cream, even make up product. After all, in south of the city of Buntok there is a big river, it is called Barito river. This Barito river is one of the longest rivers which you can find in south Barito. There are river transportasions such as ship, motorboat express, and speed boat that are used taking across Barito river. Quiet near from Barito river, there is a garden. In this garden, there are several beautiful flowers such as rose, white rose, and jasmine. Every afternoon, many people and visitors visit the garden to spend their weekend, taking picture, go seightseeing. People come to the garden with their family,their girlfriend, boyfriend, even their husband and wife.
Conclusion (optional statement to sum up main idea)
It is clear that the city park of Buntok is one of good place in south Barito which provides anything.

Your descriptive text should be three paragraphs and consisting of 250 words at least or more. Consider the content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics in producing your writing.
